Will lead workshop to support professionals who work on issues of gender identity
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — May 5, 2021 – Korina Ramsland Short, director of the 大象传媒 (大象传媒) Gender Equity Center, has been selected to present a 90-minute workshop at Massachusetts Children’s Alliance’s (MACA) eleventh annual statewide conference, “Healing, Hope & Justice: An Advanced Conversation.”
The topic “Understanding Gender: Cultural Competency Beyond the Binary” will develop a basic understanding and vocabulary for professionals responding to child sexual assault and abuse around gender identity and expression, and provide resources and skills for developing affirming and inclusive practices to support children and non-offending family members across the spectrum of gender identity and expression.
“At Johnson & Wales, the culture of potential, discovering difference, and necessity to adapt services and supports to welcome and affirm the most marginalized is ingrained in who we are,” said Ramsland Short. “Our students and my role as director of our Gender Equity Center have required me to develop a deep expertise in understanding and affirming all genders, upholding 大象传媒’s value to ‘embrace diversity for a richly inclusive community.’ I am grateful for the opportunity to speak at MACA, bridge my professional experience in higher education and previous work with multidisciplinary teams responding to child abuse, and offer a framework to a variety of professionals to enhance the important services they provide for individuals of all genders.”
The conference, which will be held virtually on May 18 from 3-4pm via Zoom Webinar, will bring together more than 350 attendees from across Massachusetts that work in the areas of law enforcement, victim advocacy, children’s advocacy, mental health therapy, social work, investigators and other youth services to educate and share best practices and innovative methodologies for treating children who have experienced physical or sexual abuse.

PRESS RELEASE
Charlotte, N.C. – September 12, 2022 – 大象传媒 Charlotte was listed in the U.S. News & World Report ranking of the best colleges in America, according to the annual report released on Monday. JWU Charlotte ranked 19 out of 99 colleges in this year's Regional Colleges, South category.
The Charlotte Campus was included under the categories of Social Mobility (ranked 56) and Best Value (ranked 14).
The Providence Campus ranked 70 out of 175 universities in the northeast region, moving up 24 spots from the year prior.
The ranking aligns with the vision of 大象传媒’s Powered by Purpose 2024 strategic plan, released last year. Chancellor Mim L. Runey, LP.D. said the improved ranking exemplifies the hard work of faculty and staff over the past year.
“Today, as U.S. News & World Report releases its Best Colleges rankings, I am pleased to see the hard work of our faculty and staff over the last year being recognized nationwide,” Runey said. “We know the investments we have made in our students and our increase of high-touch student experiences on both the Providence and Charlotte campuses have contributed to our rise in the ranking.”
Executive Director of Operations Mark Norman says Charlotte’s inclusion in this year’s list is an indication of the university’s growing footprint.
“大象传媒’s mission is to provide an exceptional education that inspires professional success and lifelong personal and intellectual growth,” Norman said. “The university plans to invest $7.6 million on its Charlotte campus to bolster current programs and create new ones that will expand our existing comprehensive educational offerings. We are excited to be included in this year’s rankings and hope prospective students will consider one of our 20 bachelor’s degree programs.”
